Marine Operations witn LSP-1

Operations in the construction of the «LSP-1».
Construction of LSP-1 was carried out at LLC Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association (ASPO shipyard).

Upon completion of construction of LSP-1 at the shipyard, the platform was towed to the field and installed on the sea bottom at a given point. By the end of the construction draft platform exceeded the depth of the transport path at point of installation..
To ensure the draft, enabling the towing through Volga Caspian Channel under bracing LSP-1 between its pontoons was installed transport pontoon. The barge-platform of "Sevan", especially for passing of LSP-1 through the Volga Caspian Channel, was upgraded project of "CDB" Vympel "(Nizhny Novgorod) and approved by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

To ensure the LSP-1 draft through the Volga Caspian Channel, no more than 4,2 m, was planned to tow the LSP-1 together with the transport pontoon "Sevan. Prior to float over operations the transport pontoon “Sevan” was submerged, to design draft.
Further, the transport pontoon was installed under the lower horizontal connections between columns LSP-1.
As a result, after the final deballasting of Sevan, the draft of LSP-1 + Sevan complex did not exceed 4,20 m.

TOWING OF LSP-1 + SEVAN.
To ensure the planned night parking LSP-1 in the Volga Caspian Channel appropriate places were equipped with mooring arrangements, which include Flipper Delta anchor, anchor bridle (chain and wire), mooring buoy.
Mooring arrangements in places night parking of LSP-1 was installed and tested in advance (2-3 days prior to the towing of LSP-1) and removed immediately after completion of LSP-1 towing.

After towing the LSP-1 through the VCC (the arrival of the convoy at the Astrakhan Sea Roadstead ) was changed a river towing convoy of LSP-1 on a sea towing convoy of LSP-1.

Upon completion of the LSP-1 towing at the point of installation and after receiving a favorable weather forecasts began floating out operations of transport pontoon "Sevan" from the LSP-1, followed by positioning and installation of LSP-1 at the point of installation.

Floating out operations of "Sevan" pontoon from the LSP-1 included the following operations:

  • positioning of the LSP-1 by AHTS;
  • ballasting and submerge Sevan pontoon (at a depth of 11.8 m);
  • bringing out operations of "Sevan" pontoon from the LSP-1;
  • de-ballasting of the “Sevan” to surface it in the transport position;

Positioning and installation of LSP-1 on the seabed.
Marine operations were performed by AHTS vessels. For this purpose, on LSP-1 was embarked specially personnel.
Holding of the LSP-1 was carried out AHTS towing gear (towing winch and towing wire), while towing wires of AHTS vessels connected with the wires provided on the LSP-1.
Holding of the AHTS vessel were performed using anchor and mooring arrangements (Delta flipper anchors, chain bridles, mooring buoys and etc.) prelaid in advance.
Before submerging for installation on the seabed, LSP-1 was oriented in azimuth and position by AHTS vessels and taking into account previously installed of LSP-2. Position of LSP-1 during submerging onto the seabed was under control all time. Prior to installation of LSP-1 onto seabed was the final correction of the LSP-1 position, and after that LSP-1 was installed onto seabed.
After installing the LSP-1 onto seabed, was determined the actual position of the platform, as well as position relative to the LSP-2. During the submerge and installation of LSP-1 was provided a permanent video surveillance by ROV.

Submerging of LSP-1 was carried out in accordance with specially designed ballasting manual.
The sequence of ballast operations to ensure the safety submerging of platform which is on the personnel.

Completion of LSP-1 installation.
After installing the LSP-1 onto the seabed the AHTS vessels carried out the positioning and installation of LFA-1, disconnect from the mooring wires of LSP- 1 and anchor mooring arrangements. At the end of marine operations with LSP-1, the AHTS vessels removed of the anchor and mooring equipments from the point of installation of LSP-1 and took him to the CMC warehouses.

The result of marine operations with LSP-1.

In July-August 2009, "Crane Marine Contractor LLC" prepared and carried out marine operations, including towing of complex LSP-1 + "Sevan", with a total displacement of 19000 tons, from the shipyard, located in Zolotoy Zaton on the River Volga (Astrakhan ) to the point of installation and operation on the Yuri Korchagin oil field in the northern Caspian Sea, positioning and installation onto the seabed.

Maritime operations consisted of 3 stages, with pronounced features:

1. Towing of complex LSP-1 + "Sevan", with a total displacement of 19000 tons, from the shipyard, located in Zolotoy Zaton on the River Volga (Astrakhan ) to the entrance of Volga Caspian Canal .................................................................................15 km ;
River part of Volga Caspian Canal .............................................................................................................150 km ;
Sea part of Volga Caspian Canal to the Astrakhan sea road.......................................................................38 km;
Total distance about 203 km.

The first stage was limited of Volga Caspian Canal dimensions:

  • Depth...................................................................................................................................................5.1 m;
  • Width..................................................................................................................................................100 m;
  • Rounded radius of curved bends of canal...........................................................................................500 m;

2. Marine towing in the shallow water of the North Caspian......................................................................138 km;

3. Bringing out of Sevan barge from LPS-1, positioning and installation of LSP-1 onto seabed.
